We are a New Testament Church and our basic beliefs are described in the “Nicene” Creed:
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshipped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic (universal) and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Amen.
We also emphasise that:
The Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) is the inspired Word of God and is God’s infallible Word. It gives us whatever is needed for our faith and for the way we must live our lives as Christians.
On the cross Jesus Christ took our place, died in our place and took on Him our sin. Based on this, God forgives every person who comes to Him in repentance and faith in Christ.
When a person believes in Christ with all his/her heart, the Holy Spirit indwells in him/her and helps him/her to live a holy life and produce spiritual fruit in his/her life. Then, when the Holy Spirit fills (baptises) a person, He gives him/her power in the form of spiritual gifts, which are to be used for evangelism (witnessing), for the common good and for building up the Church.
The Lord Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church.
The Church has a responsibility to evangelise and disciple. Love among each other is essential in the Church. The behaviour of the Church towards everybody must be holy and blameless.
